Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? — Isaiah 29:15 KJV
Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from the Lord, who do their work in darkness and think, “Who sees us? Who will know?” — Isaiah 29:15 NIV
Reflection for Today's Verse
How incredibly childish can we be at times! We make an effort to keep the Lord in the dark regarding both what we have done and what we have planned. We are, quite obviously, merely deceiving ourselves. At first blush, the idea that God is aware of our intentions and can observe our behavior can appear to be intimidating. However, after giving it some thought for a while, don’t you find it comforting knowing God is aware of everything, including our internal motivations and thoughts? This ensures that justice will be served, and that our messes will be judged based on our intentions as well as our outcomes, rather than just the outcomes themselves! On top of that, it also indicates that those who conspire against us will have to answer to God, and that we do not need to worry about “settling the score” or “getting even.”
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the times when I tried to keep my ideas and thoughts a secret from you. Make a new and clean heart in me so that I will not be terrified of what you may discover when you look into my heart and see what is going on there. My spirit needs to be stirred by the power of your Spirit so that I might seek your character and yearn for your presence in my life. I pray that every day of my life may be spent giving glory to you and serving your kingdom. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
